DPI

DPI (dots per inch) describes the resolution of a raster image in relation to its printed size. The more dots per inch, the finer and sharper the resulting print.

Which resolution to use

  • 300 DPI at actual size — the standard for printed materials and full-color printing,
  • 150 DPI — sufficient for large-format prints viewed from a greater distance,
  • 72 DPI — typical of web images and usually unsuitable for print.

Artificially enlarging an image does not improve its quality. Logos are best supplied as vector graphics, which is resolution-independent. Read more about raster files in our Raster Graphics article.
